One DP70 (2440) was hauled to a landfill in Little Rock before anyone was notified ot its
removal around May/June 2003. All that remains of this AAII are some spare parts and the 70mm conversion kit in its original oak box with the serial number plate on the front.

EL4001 and that number is followed by the designation "N.R.
2063". The projector was probably one of a pair used at
the Varsity Theatre in Peoria. Second projector (Installed
2000) has no serial number. 2063 installed in the
late 70's (possibly early 80's) to run the 70mm-blowups then
in vogue.
The 2nd projector was installed by James Bond who owns a
number of them (including one modified for 8 perf). He says
the one he put in at the Virginia is the same one that ran the
"Cinema Borealis" festival in Chicago's Lincoln Park in 1989.
That machine came from Mark Gulbrandsen who bought it from
Paul Mundt in San Francisco who had purchased a truckload of
them which came out of theatres in the Boston area so the
original installation for this unit was there. Lonny Jennings,
then of Dolby, was at the Cinema Borealis screening and said
he actually recognized that projector as a machine he helped
remove back when he was a tech in the Boston area.
At the Virginia it has been fitted with remaining magazine
components not seen in these pics from the CB festival. Steve Kraus |

This was a D-150 house originally built by George Gaughn
of Oklahoma City. He built three Continentals; one in Tulsa,
another in Oklahoma City and another in Denver, Colorado.
These two machines were sold to an individual at
Weatherford, Oklahoma when the Continental in Tulsa closed.
This person stored them and then sold them to whoever built
the Al Monte. I personally ran alot of 35mm and 70mm through
this pair of machines when I was a relief projectionist at
the Continental in the 1970s. This is a great pair Norelcos

Here
are a couple of pictures of the Mann's Fox Theater in Austin Tx. The
theater opened with one screen in the late 1960's with something just shy
of 1000 seats. The built a 2nd theater on the other side of the building
later then eventually built a wall down 1/3 over from the right wall in
the first house and put in a 3rd screen.
The original screen was the only one with the 2 AA's. Later, after I had
left, they installed Xenon lamp houses and shipped one of the machines. I
talked to the man who was the Manager at the time. He thought that the one
shipped may have gone to Detroit.
Hope you find this of some interest. I have a couple more black and white
photos that I will send seperatly.
Best wishes, John Stewart

Todd-AO installation was most likely done specifically for

shown at this theatre. Many years later the theatre was
divided into two theatres and subsequently closed. Theatre
