 Bob Morgan, Jock Upfold, James Clavell.EXHIBITORS, circuit bookers and members of the press were Invited by Ron Lee, managing director of Cinerama International Releasing Organisation, to see a twenty-minute mini-version of James Clavell's 70mm production of "The Last Valley". The mini film was specially made in 70mm by Clavell, who produced, directed and wrote the story of "The Last Valley" for showing to professionals, exhibitors, booking executives and pressmen-throughout the world. As he said, "..it has a beginning, a middle and an end" to give a clear impression of the story, the settings, the action and the performances of the cast. The adventure epic stars Michael Caine and Omar Sharif and tells the story of a group of soldiers in the Thirty Years' War.  "The Last Valley" comes with an additional reel of 70mm for which I’ll try and provide a little background. It is my understanding that the director prepared this reel featuring several sequences from the film to help promote it, or use as a means of getting relevant parties/distributors interested in the movie. It’s almost like a 70mm fifteen minute trailer – however it’s interesting because it doesn’t feature any of John Barry’s final score, but temporary dubbed music to help create the right atmosphere. I assume therefore that this was prepared well in advance of its initial release and before John Barry had scored the movie.
