 A consortium of European movie theaters have banded together to host a
touring slate of digitally
re-mastered, widescreen motion pictures from the
vaults of Cinerama Inc.Randy Gitsch has announced that Dave Strohmaier and he have been invited to present a slate of motion pictures they’ve digitally re-mastered, in a traveling film festival in four cities in Germany, Austria and Norway. Each venue will program from a roster of available titles, including features and short-subjects originally from 3-panel and 70mm. THE 2015 EUROPEAN CINERAMA FESTIVAL TOUR, as it is now called, will kick off on April 18 with multiple screenings at the Schauburg Cinerama in Karlsruhe, Germany. Festival Flyers: • Karlsruhe Cinerama Tour • Innsbruck Cinerama Tour • Düsseldorf Cinerama Tour A multiple-day film festival event there will then move on to a similar run at the Leo Kino & Cinematograph in Innsbruck, Austria. A third stop, back in Germany beginning on April 30, at Metropol Cinerama Dusseldorf will follow through May 3. And the tour will then head to Oslo, Norway, for a multiple-day run at the Cinemateket, with a special event finale on May 9. On October 15-18, the tour will kick off 'part 2' of it's run with the premiere of "The Best of Cinerama" (1962) at the National Media Museum's Pictureville cinema in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. Immediately thereafter, it will travel to the european mainland, where as guests of the Danish Film Institute, Strohmaier and Gitsch will again host 5 days of screenings now at the Cinemateket in Copenhagen. Those screenings will parallel Cinerama showings across the Öresund in neighboring Malmo, Sweden, at the Panora Theater. The "2015 European Cinerama Festival Tour" will officially end on Oct. 25 with the apt closer, "Cinerama Holiday". “We’re delighted to be a part of something this inclusive of our final digital versions and to be sharing them in multiple festivals on the road in Europe where Cinerama has always had an hugely enthusiastic fan base”, says Gitsch. |

 David Strohmaier has directed and supervised the restoration of this legacy
collection of widescreen titles, now a 5-year undertaking. Gitsch has
re-copyrighted the re-masters. They have been production-partnered in the
digital reconstruction and transition of these pictures since their original
collaboration to create the definitive documentary on the 3-panel process,
"Cinerama Adventure",
in 2002. Working together, they have presented premiere screenings of each
of these new digital works as they were completed, across the United States
and Europe. In 2014, they presented premieres at Spain’s
Malaga International Film Festival
and at Bradford,
Yorkshire’s National Media Museum, in the U.K..All titles have been re-mastered in 2K, with restored 7-channel sound, re-mixed in 5.1, and are sourced on DCPs. They have each been reformatted using the Smilebox® Simulated Curved Screen letterbox, which works on movie screens of all sizes, whether curved or flat. The line-up of titles screening at each venue will be unique. Those titles, screening dates and show times for each theater have yet to be announced, but will be posted here on in70mm.com very soon. |
