Make it big - Give it style - Give it class. Where have we heard that before? I think we all agree that statement shows what is missing from to-days motion picture industry. It also reflects the full full concept set out by the late Mike Todd Snr.

The 70mm Road-show was a theatrical experience on celluloid. All the trimmings of separate performance, advance booking, programme booklets, and a full marketing campaign. Those key theatres equipped to operate this type of presentation have, in most cases, gone.

With the advent of multi-screen venues, sets of equipment were removed, destroyed, or replaced with 35mm only. Those that did remain had the magnetic penthouse heads removed.

More important, we are on the last generation of 70mm projectionists. The know-how has almost gone, and these projectionists will be retiring from the industry. So to-day we would have to introduce a training scheme for projection in 70mm. This would have to include archive prints with magnetic sound tracks along side the new disc based digital audio playback systems.
