After a year, the smallest regular 70mm film festival is back. And it’s a unique festival, because the screenings take place in an open-air amphitheater. Screenings take place on a massive 32 x 15-meter screen with a beautiful view of the city of Banská Bystrica in the evening light behind it. This year is the 11th edition.

Over the course of two evenings, we will screen two 70mm films. We have selected films that competed against each other this year for the title of Best Film of 2025. The films will be "Sinners" and “One Battle After Another”
.

In addition to numerous other awards, the film “Sinners” was nominated for a record 16 Oscars and won Oscars for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score, and Best Actor. And that perfectly reflects what the film is like. A superbly written story full of twists and turns, featuring outstanding performances. The film was shot in the very special Ultra Panavison 70 format, which highlights the film’s stunning visuals, and combined with the beautiful music, it’s perfect for the big screen. Very few films like this have been made. One of the titles shot this way was Quentin Tarantino’s eighth film, “The Hateful Eight”, which we have already screened twice at our Amphitheater due to its great success.

Although the film “One Battle After Another” received only 13 Oscar nominations, it ended up winning 6 Oscars, including the most prestigious ones for editing, directing, and, of course, Best Picture. The film was shot in VistaVision, and it will be a completely different experience from the previous film. Director Paul Thomas Anderson has outdone himself and made a serious film for a wide audience with an outstanding cast (Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Chase Infiniti, Benicio Del Toro, Teyana Taylor, Regina Hall, and others).

For those who come for the whole weekend, we have prepared a small supporting programme to the evening 70mm screening.

The festival remains committed to classic film prints, but in addition to exclusive screenings at the summer amphitheater cinema, this year’s program will also include a meeting with film staff from Banská Bystrica’s cinemas, a themed lecture, and a screening at an unconventional location.
