A variety of old 70mm films with a GALA performance on Saturday evening. Most films are in their original versions and two, "70mm Vintage Classics", are dubbed into German.

Let us hope, that the splendour of 70mm not only serves our nostalgic dreams, but also offers the chance for a young audience to experience a historic and magic landmark of cinema.
Join us and be part of this unique event and share the excitement together with visitors from all around the world - including Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Germany, Denmark, England, USA and France - and hopefully many more.

Dear Herbert,

I would like to thank you for the organization of this year's festival. This was the first i attended to, and i must say it was a real pleasure. As much as for the movies than for the whole time spet at the cinema.

Great people, great program, great everything.

I run a a website with some friends in France. It's mostly dedicated to the genre movies, but the I'm one interested in formats. So here's the report I wrote concerning these few days in Karlsruhe. Beware : it's in French!

Best regards,
Francis Barbier

Lecture: ”70mm Formats For Beginners" 17:30

By Thomas Hauerslev, MBKS

"in 70mm" has been used for more than 50 years to show an enhanced and superior cinema performance. "In 70mm: A Format Odyssey" / "70mm Formats for Beginners", a non-chronological lecture, offers the audience the possibility to see some of the many ways 70mm film stock has been used to present "in 70mm". Lecture is richly illustrated with film frames which show the differences and variety of the 70mm film formats.

45th German anniversary screening

In the autumn of 1876, a desperate starving Cheyenne nation (less than 300 in number) broke out of its heavily guarded reservation and began to battle its way toward its historic hunting grounds some fifteen hundred grueling miles to the north. The facts of this three month trek, against overwhelming odds and an entire U.S. Army, are incredible. The powerful personal narrative behind it has been painstakingly filmed by sex-time Academy Award winner John Ford with a massive all-star cast. In its tremendous spectacle and excitement and in its torrent of human emotion, it is a motion picture that must never be forgotten....

One of very few original cinemas, still equipped with 70mm projectors. The huge screen is wide, curved and covered by a "Cinerama red" curtain. It’s the perfect framework to present 70mm with 6-track sound in Super Technirama 70, Todd-AO and Ultra Panavision 70.

Why is 70mm so special?

Vintage 70mm film. Image by Thomas Hauerslev

"in 70mm"
is unlike anything you have ever seen - a High Definition movie experience with extremely sharp images and crystal clear 6 track stereo.

"in 70mm"
is very realistic, almost three dimensional and can make everything you have ever seen pale into insignificance. But don't take our word for it - come and see for your self.
