Jan Harlan (born in Karlsruhe, 1937) is no stranger to the world of movies, as he has worked for Mr. Kubrick since the early 1970's as Producer of "The Shining", "Full Metal Jacket", "Eyes Wide Shot" and many more. Picture by Thomas Hauerslev.

Herbert Born, Manager of the Schauburg, and I, are delighted to announce the participation of Jan Harlan at the
12. Todd-AO 70mm-Festival warm-up in Karlsruhe, Germany.

When Jan is not busy teaching at film schools, introducing Stanley Kubrick's film in cinemas across Europe, or advising the travelling Stanley Kubrick Exhibition, he is enjoying being the grandfather of seven grand children.

On Thursday September 29th, at 20:00, Jan Harlan will introduce a special digital screening of "2OO1: A Space Odyssey" filmed in Super Panavision 70 at the Schauburg. "2OO1: A Space Odyssey" has been shown many times at the Schauburg. In fact it was the first 7OMM film, which ever played at the Schauburg, when the cinema was rebuilt by CINERAMA Inc. in 1968. "2OO1" tells the epic story of man's first encounter with extraterrestrial intelligence, and is set against classical music, human error, and the empty void of space. It's a wonderful, mysterious film, and as the author of the story Arthur C. Clarke is once said: "If anyone understands it on the first viewing, we've failed in our intention."

Unlike previous Todd-AO Festival 7OMM screenings in 2005, 2007 and 2014, "2OO1" is now presented as a special Festival warm-up in a digital 2K DCP transfer produced by Warner Brothers in 2009. It will be exciting to see how the digital version of the this classic epic will look on Schauburg's curved CINERAMA screen.

Will it be just as sharp, will the colors be good, will there be less grain, and will it look and sound like the film we love and have seen countless times in 7OMM?

Please welcome Jan Harlan with us at the Schauburg.
