The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter presentations of “Krakatoa, East of Java” in North America.

“Krakatoa” was among nine confirmed first-run films released in 1969 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The ABC and Cinerama presentation was directed by Bernard Kowalski and starred Maximilian Schell, Diane Baker, Brian Keith and Sal Mineo.

The North American premiere of “Krakatoa” was held in Los Angeles on May 14th. (The film’s world premiere was held a few months earlier in Tokyo.)

The 70mm prints of “Krakatoa” featured discrete six-channel stereophonic sound and full-frame imagery from 65mm photography.

The majority of the 70mm presentations were reserved-performance engagements with unreserved seating and with as many as four scheduled screenings per day.
