The
majestic
Kino
Mir 70 cinema in Krnov, Czech Republic.
In March 2006 a few Czech 70mm film fans came together for a unique
experience. The event was the first "70mm seminar" to be held in the
Kino Mir 70 cinema.
For the first time in many years the audience, mostly students,
projectionists and teachers from the city of Krnov in the Czech Republic
experienced the unique quality of the 70mm format. The event was
successful and team who organized it decided to go continue with a
second meeting 16-18. March 2007.
Under patronage of the City Council of Krnov and with the cooperation of
ACFC and Masaryk University in Brno, the Mir 70 theater was packed
with film enthusiasts from not only the Czech Republic but also visitors
from Germany and Sweden.
For three days the 178 guests had the great opportunity to experience
some of the epics screened in 70mm on the large slightly curved screen
including David Lean’s "Doctor Zhivago", Emil Loteanu’s "Tabor
ukhodit v nebo", Terrence Malick’s "Days of Heaven" and
others.
Projectors were on display in the in Mir 70 foyer and everyone was
invited to visit the projection room. The invitation didn't go
unnoticed, and the projection room was full of guests of all ages.
A small breakfast before the morning screening and some refreshment
during the whole seminar had been prepared for all visitors.
Very special thanks goes to Jaromir Blazejovsky, PhD, from Masaryk
University who was again asked to introduce each title.
Many thanks to Pavel Tomesek, the head of the theatre Mir 70 in Krnov,
officials of Culture Department of Krnov (MIKS) for their endouver work,
to Bill Lawrence from National Media Museum in Bradford, England and
Jürgen A. Brückner from Kinemathek Coburg, Germany. And of course, 2008 is coming soon. At the moment we plan to show 70mm
films like Werner W. Wallroth’s "Hauptmann Florian von der Mühle"
in DEFA 70 (1968) and
some others which will be added as soon as possible.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
