from KRRR!'s Facebook page. Used by permissionKrnov (pronunciation: kurnof, Latin: Carnovia) is a little town in the north east of the Czech Republic, on the Opava River, near the Polish border. The city was founded in 1221. Krnov has an 18th-century castle, several churches and abbeys as well as a lookout tower from 1903. The Krnov Synagogue is one of the few large synagogues to have survived the Nazi occupation of Europe. Its industrial center manufactures textiles (especially woolens), beverages (including the most popular Czech soft drink Kofola) and musical instruments (notably organs and guitars). It is also a summer resort and a winter sport area with close access to the Jeseniky Mountains, the second-highest mountain range in the country. Their 70mm festival is unique, because they always screen a few Russian co-productions which mostly have never been released in Europe. Last year during the 9th 70mm festival they screened a lot of famous 70mm films, like Khartoum (GB – 1966) The Flying Hussars Squadron (USSR- 1982) Tchaikowsky (USSR – 1969) Hamlet (GB – 1996) Ryan's Daughter (GB -1970) Anna Karenina (1967 – USSR), etc. |

Used by permissionThe program for this year (17-19 April) is not yet complete, a few titles are announced: Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) famous musical filmed in Todd-AO 35, Vertigo (1958) Originally filmed in VistaVision and in 1996 restored and re-released in 70mm , The Wild Bunch (1969) a Panavision 70mm blow-up, and SOKOLOVO (1975), an international co-production from Barrandov Studio (Czechoslovakia) en Mosfilm (USSR) directed by Otakar Vavra, filmed in 35mm anamorphic widescreen and in the Soviet Union mostly screened as 70mm blowup. The scenario is partly based on the memoires of general Ludvik Svoboda later president of Czechoslovakia (1968-1975). We are looking forward with high expectations to the other part of the program. The “Kino MIR 70” also offers sandwiches, goulash soups, drinks and more during the festival. |

How to travel from Germany to Krnov by plane, train and bus |

Used by permissionBy plane: You arrive at the Prague Airport (PRG) and then you can go by plane from Prague to Ostrava Airport (OSR), then by train from Ostrava to Krnov - Hlavní nádraží (Krnov - Main Station). Or from Prague to Krnov by train (change in Olomouc). By train and bus: Traveling from Germany to Krnov: With the Europe Special Ticket by the German Bundesbahn you can travel to Nürnberg. Outside the Main trainstation there is a Deutsche Bahn Bus going nonstop from Nürnberg to Praha/Prague train station. The Bus is very comfortable, they serve little snacks and drinks. There is also a toilette on board. Reserved seats, you book the cheap ticket via Internet. From Praha there is a fast train going to Olomouc, there you change train to a regional slow train going from Olomouc to Krnov (about 2 hours ). There are different cheap hotels in Krnov, see booking.com. Nearest to the cinema are Hotel PEPA or Hotel STEIGER (this is the better one, but about 300 m more walking distance to the KINO MIR 70).
