The HAL monologue montage is a treat, the suite of Ligeti's Requiem, Atmospheres and Adventure is a painstaking musical journey. And the CD as a whole is yet another proof that Kubrick is by far the most daring director in American commercial film. His choice of music is by no means safety first, and it reflects his ability to read and understand the underlying philosophical concept of music, an ability that seems unique if you compare Kubrick's choice of music to the choices made by other American directors of his generation. |  John O'Callaghan
John O'Callaghan was born in 1965 in Chicago, but has lived in Mission Viejo since 1972. He began making films at age 14 in 8mm and video. He has made two short films in 65mm. His first was made in 1989 and the second was finished in November 1992.

Driving Simulator

The U.C.L.A. Driving Simulator has been developed as a research tool in the field of highway safety. This simulator is a projection room in which an automobile is driven on steel rollers of a standard chassis dynamometer while the driver views the road scene that is projected onto a curved screen 8.5 ft in radius. The driver also views the road scene behind him by looking through the rear-view mirror at a motion picture projected on a screen placed beyond the rear window of the vehicle. The field of vision of the front view is 150 deg. “How The West Was Won” was shown at David’s insistence despite my feelings that the soundtrack was too worn to complete a full screening. However, the major problem with “HTWWW” was that we had to try and carry out a major re-edit on with a different soundtrack to 1996, as well as inserting the English titles. This is a lengthy time-consuming project at the best of times, in the heat of a film festival it is almost impossible.
