The HAL monologue montage is a treat, the suite of Ligeti's Requiem,
Atmospheres and Adventure is a painstaking musical journey. And the CD as a
whole is yet another proof that Kubrick is by far the most daring director
in American commercial film. His choice of music is by no means safety
first, and it reflects his ability to read and understand the underlying
philosophical concept of music, an ability that seems unique if you compare
Kubrick's choice of music to the choices made by other American directors of
his generation. |

O'Callaghan
John O'Callaghan was born in 1965 in Chicago,
but has lived in Mission Viejo since 1972. He began making films at age 14
in 8mm and video. He has made two short films in 65mm. His
first was made in 1989 and the second was finished in
November 1992.

Bradford Film Festival 1997

successful weekend in Bradford in March 1996, we are currently planning the
4th Widescreen Festival. The 4th Widescreen Film Festival will run through
the 3rd Bradford Film Festival, but the core special weekend 14 - 16 March
1997 will be full of
widescreen material. |
 Release of "Hamlet" in 70mm
"Hamlet" is the first British film in 25 years to be filmed
in 65mm. The man charged with capturing the look of the film
was cinematographer Alex Thomson. "The fabulous advantage of
70mm is the sharpness of detail it gives, which can look
three-dimensional at times" |

Film in China

70mm film making in China started in 1984 and significant
progress has been made in the last few years. There are a
few cinemas showing IMAX films in 8-perf versions there. China Research Institute of Film Science &
Technology or CRIFST for short, is the only state-level research institute
in film science & technology and the most autohoritive organization in
developing of 70mm films in China. |

150 Visual Display for U.C.L.A. Driving Simulator

The U.C.L.A. Driving Simulator has been developed as a
research tool in the field of highway safety. This simulator
is a projection room in which an automobile is driven on
steel rollers of a standard chassis dynamometer while the
driver views the road scene that is projected onto a curved
screen 8.5 ft in radius. The driver also views the road
scene behind him by looking through the rear-view mirror at
a motion picture projected on a screen placed beyond the
rear window of the vehicle. The field of vision of the front
view is 150 deg. The projection technique used is a special
type of motion picture presentation called Dimension 150 |
 "Harmony: Nature and Man"
Washington State Film for EXPO 70 in Dimension 150
"Harmony: Nature and Man" is one of the most
comprehensive documentaries on a U.S. state ever produced, to be the major
attraction of the Washington State Pavilion at the 1970 Osaka Worlds Fair in
Japan. The film will be photographed and exhibited in the 70mm Dimension 150
process, the only
current motion
picture process of
both a photographic
and an exhibition

 Misconceptions
about the Bradford setup

“How The West Was Won” was shown at David’s insistence despite my
feelings that the soundtrack was too worn to complete a full
screening. However, the major problem with “HTWWW” was that we had
to try and carry out a major re-edit on with a different soundtrack
to 1996, as well as inserting the English titles. This is a lengthy
time-consuming project at the best of times, in the heat of a film
festival it is almost impossible. We did not have sufficient time to
allow for a rehearsal and checking. |

After driving around looking for the address we finally
found Woodward leading up to Pond Place, and then, number 8.
Bingo! Here it was. I felt the history of wide screen
blowing in the winds. Thanks to the vision of Fred Waller,
it was here Cinerama took shape. This is where the mother of
all super wide screen film formats was born. |
 Vinterpalatset A Story of Magnificence, Proud and Mourned

This is the story of one of the greatest
cinemas in Sweden. It was called "Vinterpalatset" ("The
Winterpalace") and was situated in Stockholm, the lovely capital of Sweden.
