The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter engagements of Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” in the United States and Canada. These were the cinemas worth seeking out to experience this motion picture.

“Sleeping Beauty” was among five confirmed first-run films released in 1959 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The Walt Disney production and Buena Vista release — directed by Clyde Geronimi (Supervising Director) and Eric Larson, Wolfgang Reitherman and Les Clark (Sequence Directors) — premiered January 29th and followed with a staggered rollout. (The film’s 35mm general release commenced during the summer months of 1959.)

The original 70mm prints of “Sleeping Beauty” featured letterboxed imagery (sourced from Technirama Large Aperture Successive Exposure photography) and six-track stereophonic sound. Re-issued and re-struck 70mm prints featured full-frame imagery (2.20:1).

The original 1959 presentations of “Sleeping Beauty” included the CinemaScope short “Grand Canyon.” Short subject(s) and trailer(s), if any, during the film’s numerous re-releases varied by venue and screening.
