The following is a reference/historical listing of the 70-millimeter
presentations of “The Dirty Dozen” in North America. These were
full-frame prints blown up from 35mm spherical photography and “presented in
the grandeur, scope and excitement of 70mm projection with 6 track
stereophonic sound”.
“The Dirty Dozen” was among five confirmed films released in 1967
with 70mm prints for selected engagements and the presentations were
continuous-performance, general-release bookings (i.e. not roadshow). The
Kenneth Hyman production and MGM release was directed by Robert Aldrich and
starred Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, Jim Brown, John
Cassavetes, Richard Jaeckel, George Kennedy, Trini Lopez, Ralph Meeker,
Robert Ryan, Telly Savalas, Clint Walker, and Robert Webber.
The world premiere of “The Dirty Dozen” was held June 15th, 1967, at Loew’s
Capitol in New York.
The duration of the engagements (measured in weeks) has been included in
parenthesis following the cinema name.
1967-06-15 … New York, NY — Capitol (7)
1967-06-28 … Los Angeles, CA — Paramount (15)
1967-06-28 … San Francisco, CA — Northpoint (9) [70mm from Week #3]
1967-06-30 … Toronto, ON — Uptown (16)
1967-07-21 … Chicago, IL — State Lake (10)
SUBSEQUENT 70MM ENGAGEMENTS & SCREENINGS
