The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter
presentations of “Eraser” in North America.
“Eraser” was a special one-off screening event for the 1996 Olympic athletes.
Also during 1996 Disney held two one-off 70mm premieres (“The Hunchback of Notre
Dame” at the Superdome in New Orleans and “101 Dalmatians” at Radio City in New
York), plus there was one new 70mm movie release (“Hamlet”) and one 70mm
restoration/re-issue (“Vertigo”).
The Warner Bros. release was directed by Charles Russell (“The Mask”) and
starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, James Caan, Vanessa Williams, James Coburn and
Robert Pastorelli. The film had previously been released in North America on
June 21st in 35mm with digital sound (Dolby Digital, DTS, SDDS) and a Dolby SR
analog track.
The 70mm print of “Eraser” featured Six-Track Dolby Stereo and full-frame
imagery blown up from anamorphic 35mm.
