 The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter engagements of “One from the Heart” in the United States and Canada. These were the cinemas worth seeking out to experience the filmmakers’ preferred presentation of this motion picture.“One from the Heart” was among eighteen first-run films released in 1982 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The Zoetrope production and Columbia release — directed by Francis Coppola (“Apocalypse Now,” “Tucker”) and starring Frederic Forrest, Teri Garr, Raul Julia, Nastassia Kinski, Lanie Kazan and Harry Dean Stanton — opened February 11th*. *Sources and memories conflict in regard to whether the film’s 70mm prints circulated from Day One or if they came about later as a response to cinemas not adhering to the filmmakers’ recommendation that 35mm prints be screened in 1.37:1 Academy format. The confirmed playdates suggest the latter. The 70mm prints of “One from the Heart” featured Six-Track Dolby Stereo (“A” encoded Baby Boom format) and pillarboxed imagery (approximately 1.37:1) blown up from spherical 35mm. Bing*** 1999-11-05 … Los Angeles, CA — Egyptian**** 2026-06-20 … Santa Monica, CA — Aero [Ultra Cinematheque 70 Fest] 2026-09-14 … New York, NY — Paris [Big & Loud! series] **Special one-night-only double-feature screening with “Apocalypse Now” celebrating the 20th anniversary of Zoetrope Studios ***Screened during “Writing with Light: The Cinematography of Vittorio Storaro” retrospective, which also included “The Conformist,” “Last Tango in Paris,” “Reds,” “Apocalypse Now” (70mm), “Dick Tracy” (70mm), “The Sheltering Sky” (70mm) and “Tango” (Univisium). ****A 70mm print of “One from the Heart” was present in the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian projection booth during the “Blow Your Mind: The Great Big 70mm Film Festival” which ran November 5-21, 1999. The print was standing by as a back-up in the event any of the scheduled films were not delivered or deemed too damaged to screen publicly. Ultimately, it never screened during the festival.
