The following is a reference / historical listing of the 70-millimeter presentations of “The Poseidon Adventure” in North America. These were the best cinemas in which to experience the film.

“The Poseidon Adventure” was among six confirmed first-run films released in 1972 with 70mm prints for selected engagements. The Irwin Allen production and 20th Century-Fox release was directed by Ronald Neame and featured an all-star cast headed by Gene Hackman, Ernest Borgnine, Red Buttons, Carol Lynley, Roddy McDowall, Stella Stevens, and Shelley Winters.

The 70mm prints of “The Poseidon Adventure” consisted of full-frame imagery blown up from anamorphic 35mm and “presented in the grandeur, scope and excitement of 70mm projection with 6 track stereophonic sound”.

The world premiere of “The Poseidon Adventure” was held December 12th, 1972, at the National in New York, and which doubled as the grand-opening festivities of the cinema.
