"Holiday In Spain" (aka Scent of Mystery): (all 65mm)

Frame sample from scan by Dave Strohmaier

Some big trouble here - the color looks sort of OK but the 0-negs (original camera negs) have noticeable blotches and some fluttering on many reels (we spot checked 4 rolls). Some of this might be able to be removed but not all of it. I will try some tests on this footage with furnace core and see what comes up and if it can be minimized or not. Won't be a simple re mastering job however, as it may need outside vendor techniques such as Digital Vision to minimize the blotching. Another possibility would be to test telecine one of the of the fluttering sections but with the 70mm "pinkish" print (the print does not seem to flutter when we saw it a few weeks ago) and see if Steve the Crest colorist can get color back into it using "FCP Color" software.

Should sonic clean all rolls if we proceed. We have the soundtrack on DA-88 digital tape already preserved.

We have been able to fix "Holiday in Spain" and John Sittig have committed the extra money on it to fix it to make it ready for Cinerama's 60th Anniversary celebration.
