at once you’re surrounded by screen and sound… the screen opens high and
wide…and now for the first time the new M.C.S. 70mm process…”The following is a reference / historical listing of the roadshow and 70mm presentations of “Mediterranean Holiday” in the United States and Canada. The West German production was directed by Karl Hartl, Hermann Leitner and Rudolf Nussgruber, originated in MCS Superpanorama 70 and originally released in 1962 under the title “Flying Clipper: Traumreise unter weissen Segeln.” The English-language version incorporated narration by Burl Ives and was distributed by Walter Reade-Sterling Out of the hundreds of films released in North America during 1964, “Mediterranean Holiday” was among only seven released with 70mm prints. This motion picture was issued in 35mm anamorphic and special formats Arc-120 and Wonderama, plus 70mm formats CineVision, non-branded 70mm, and Cinerama-branded 70mm. (The 35mm, Arc-120 and Wonderama presentations have not been cited in this work.) Some of the bookings were exhibited on a reserved-seat “roadshow” basis.
