On Saturday 26th April 2014 was a special 25th Anniversary at the Biffen Cinema in the northern Danish University City Aalborg.

To mark the 25th Anniversary of Aalborg’s only (3 screens) Independent Arts House Cinema a 70mm Festival was planned as the owner and manager Orla Nielsen is a great fan and supporter of 70mm Presentations and had equipped their largest Screen with a pair of 35/70mm Philips DP70’s with a wall to wall curved screen for High Impact Cinema.

I heard about this Cinema for some years and always wanted to planned to visit this Cinema and the “
70MM Event” was a great opportunity to experience 70mm at this Cinema.

I found that was a direct Flight from London Gatwick to Aalborg and around 10min (20Knr) Bus connection to Aalborg City centre a walk to the Hotel on Thursday evening.

With perfect sunny weather spent some time walking around the city and taking in views of the waterfront then later meet up with Thomas and other “overseas” guests on Friday afternoon, we were later joined by our Guest of Honour Oliver Todd who must had first thought why are these crazy people from around Europe and further a field wanted to watch old movies in Aalborg!.

The 70mm programme comprised of two 70mm feature films and a Lecture and Q&A with Oliver Todd, this was ideal as more time was available for “70mm Fans” to chat and Eat and have a few Beers together, making it a good relaxing day and by the end of the day Oliver was greatly impressed with the “70mm Experience”.

Special thanks for Orla and his Staff at the Biffen for all their hard work and well presented Event and also to Thomas Hauerslev for his Lecture and Q&A and publicising this Event.

I hope another one will be planned in the future…….
